Dear Parents/Guardians and students,
Re: Regional Schools Update
I hope that you have been able to enjoy some of the school break. It is worrying to us all to see Latrobe back in a seven-day lockdown this week, but we remain hopeful that it will end on Tuesday, as currently planned. Due to the differences between restrictions in Melbourne and Regional Victoria, and the Latrobe lockdown affecting our area, there are two possible scenarios from Wednesday next week. To give you as much information and clarity as we can, please note the information below.
Essentially, while under lockdown in Latrobe, we are following all Melbourne restrictions (excluding the curfew), and following Melbourne’s return-to-school arrangements. When the Latrobe lockdown ends, we will follow Regional Victoria’s return-to-school arrangements.
The following information is confirmed for Monday and Tuesday.
Monday 4th October - All students will learn remotely (via Microsoft Teams).
Tuesday 5th October – All students will learn remotely, except those doing the GAT exam.
Importantly, all students undertaking a Unit 3/4 VCE subject (Year 12s, and some Year 11s), need to attend the GAT Exam, on Tuesday. The exam commences at 10:00am, through until 1:15pm, in the Federation University Auditorium. Students need to arrive by 9:45am at the latest. A reminder there are no phones or watches in the exam room. Remember to bring a clear water bottle and stationery. All students can attend the GAT exam, regardless of their vaccination status. All students must wear a mask.
The following information is subject to the Latrobe lockdown. We will provide an update on Monday or Tuesday when further announcements have been made.
IF the Latrobe lockdown ends on Tuesday 5th October as planned:
The following return-to-school arrangements apply for Regional Victoria.
- Year 11s and 12s return onsite full-time from Wed 6th October.
- Year 7s return onsite full-time from Mon 11th October.
- Year 8s/9s return onsite part-time from Mon 11th October – Tuesday/Wednesday only.
- Year 10s return onsite part-time from Monday 11th October – Thursday/Friday only.
- When part-time year levels are not onsite, classes will continue remotely, on Teams.
IF the Latrobe lockdown is extended:
All Latrobe schools will continue to follow Melbourne arrangements. In this case, only our Year 12s will return from Wednesday 6th October, and all other year levels will continue remotely.
We will provide a further update early next week, with information regarding Covid-SAFE requirements (such as masks), that will apply when students return on campus. It is most likely that masks and other covid safe protocols will be in place.
Onsite Care and Supervision Program
Our onsite care and supervision program will resume from Monday 4th October, for those students who were already approved and attending at the end of Term 3. Full uniform and masks are required.
Pop-up Vaccination Clinic at Kurnai - Morwell Campus
A pop-up clinic is being held at the Morwell Campus gym on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th October, where members of the community can receive the Moderna vaccination. Students and their families will have the opportunity to access this service on Friday 8th October from 3pm to 6pm. This is a walk-in clinic and appointments are not required. Children aged 12 and over are eligible to receive the Moderna vaccination, students must be accompanied by a parent/carer to receive the vaccination.
Thank you for your understanding and patience in this most demanding of times, there may be further changes as we work through the government announcements and the Latrobe situation evolves. Vaccination rates are increasing at a significant rate in Victoria, and we therefore believe there is reason to be optimistic that schooling will return to some level of normality in the near future. We very much look forward to having our students back in the classroom as soon as we can.
On behalf of the Principal team at Kurnai.
